Saint Fiacres Farm
KALE-LELUJAH, @saintfiacresfarm will be in C-Shed again next Saturday with their bright colored produce and blooms…each variety framed beautifully in a handmade, wooden box!
“It was a lot of work to build a business and grow a following,” shared Nick Gressel, co-founder of Saint Fiacres Farm. “You're the farmer and the planner and the marketer and the salesman." And let’s also include the title of expert in Nick’s list of many roles. Any farmer knows the slue of technical expertise that actually goes into running a farm, especially when you’re abstaining from using large farm equipment. Thankfully in a prior life, Nick was a mechanic and now applies those skills to automate their greenhouses and watering system. It can all be controlled through a phone. While building out such systems was time consuming initially, it makes for sustainable operations. “We can eliminate room for errors and I can focus on what’s important with the actual farming.”
As for clever and meaningful marketing, there’s a reason behind the stacks of wooden boxes displaying their veggies and it’s directly tied to their farm’s name. Saint Fiacre’s, the patron of growers of vegetables and medicinal plants, and gardeners in general, is also a patron to box makers!
Boxes and blooms and bountiful produce are all waiting for you Saturdays in C-Shed on Saturdays between 7am-2pm. Check out yesterday's post to learn about the Gressel's sustainable farming practices.
