Ravens Nest Candles
Patti McDermott, owner of @ravensnest_emporium, has some pretty LIT products 🕯
After taking over a local candlemakers business, Patti started making high-quality, scented pure soy candles. Getting crafty at home in the carriage house on her property, instead of working in an office, was the perfect opportunity so she could still be the sole caregiver to her partner who is a disabled Iraq vet.
In 2017, she started vending at the CNY Regional Market and markets alike. “I love the hustle and bustle and meeting many new customers that sometimes even become friends.” Since her first Market Day, demand has grown substantially so she expanded her product base to include room sprays, bath bombs, stinky dog spray, shower steamers, shampoo and conditioner bars, beard oil, good old fashioned shaving soap, and most recently handmade soap. She also has a brand new camels milk soap that has 5x more vitamins, alpha hydroxy, and possible skin healing properties than goats milk contains.
Beyond the physical act of creating these unique items, she loves educating new customer on ethical product creation and consumerism. All of her soaps are handmade in small batches using sustainable materials and the candles are curated with American made and recycled products through eco-sustainable processes. Her high quality scented, soy candles are hand-poured in small batches using American made and recycled products.
Patti shares her personal experience with the Market: “I had shopped at the regional market for years before becoming a vendor. There is no other place around that you can buy fresh organic meats and vegetables. Oh, and let’s not forget the cheeses and probiotic pickled vegetables that are so healthy. I feel I get better products there than at the grocery store and I am supporting other small businesses like myself.”
Her candles specifically check all the boxes —vegan, cruelty free, artisan poured AND are long lasting. Just one 16 oz candle can be enjoyed for 100+ hours.

Such a discovery creates a lovely silky lather and leaving the skin soft and moisturized.

All of her soaps are handmade in small batches using sustainable materials and the candles are curated with American made and recycled products through eco-sustainable processes. Her high quality scented, soy candles are hand-poured in small batches using American made and recycled products. Pat developed her products through a slew of research which she still continues today. She continuously tests burning candles, counting the hours they last based on the ingredients included or the length of the wic or size of the jar. You can imagine the thousands of combinations of these variables Pat tested to determine which wic is sized correctly for the candle jar. She cares that the candle burns from top to bottom with all the soy wax being used.
A typical day for Pat starts with heating up the wax melter that holds up to 80 lbs of material. In the afternoon, the heated wax is ready to take its new form and Pat begins pouring it into candles. In the meantime, she works on perfecting the high-quality of the laundry list of products in demand. Working with all kinds of calming and energizing smells, she’s able to simultaneously enjoy the aromatherapy as an added bonus!
